Come and Hear What Japanese UN Staff Have to Say

Press Release 06-074-E 2006.11.20

At Roppongi Hills Arena on Friday 1 December,
Marking the 50th Anniversary of Japan’s Entry into the UN

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Japan’s entry into the United Nations. To help the Japanese public understand the wide range of UN’s activities, the United Nations Information Centre, Tokyo, decided to produce 30-second and 60-second video clips under the theme “The 50 Years of Japan and the United Nations –Japanese UN Staff in the World.” These images of Japanese staff working to build bridges throughout the world will provide a good opportunity for Japanese people to rediscover their ties with the United Nations. The video clips will be run from 1 to 18 December on 250 screens in Roppongi Hills and Omotesando Hills, as well as on TV Asahi Vision.

An opening event will be held on 1 December to mark the debut of the clips. The programme includes a live-talk session entitled “Japanese UN Staff on the World Stage” (about 20 minutes), during which Japanese staff with recent assignments in Afghanistan, Liberia and Nepal will describe how they felt on their way to joining the Organization and share their valuable experiences gained throughout their career. It is hoped that their voices will inspire many people, including those who aspire to a career as international civil servant, and those who are still undecided as to what kind of career to pursue. Please feel free to bring your friends along.
