Topic: Progress and challenges in promoting agriculture and sustainable development, development in Africa, New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD), NERICA (New Rice for Africa), Rural community empowerment and poverty reduction, Micro-finance, agriculture and ecosystem management, and biofuel production. The speaker will address recent movement in international cooperation for agriculture and sustainable development, and future perspectives including the Japan’s support.
Profile of the 
speaker:

A Nigerian national. Worked at the International Crop Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT)and served as the Director-General of the Africa Rice Centre (ARDA) from 1996-2006. Assumed the current position in March 2007.
