Turn your unneeded metal products into medals for the Tokyo 2020 Games! – Medal Project: Towards an Innovative Future for All – A collection box will be placed on the 1st floor of United Nations University building

Press Release 19-001-E 2019.01.21

On 14 November 2018, a Letter of Intent (LOI) was signed between the United Nations and Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) to promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020. In the spirit of the LOI, United Nations Information Centre, Tokyo, will participate in Tokyo 2020’s Medal Project, which aims to create 5,000 gold, silver, and bronze medals by using recycled material from small-sized electric appliances.

To accept recyclable appliances, a collection box will be set up by the reception desk of the United Nations University building from 21 January to 20 March. Electric appliances, including cell phones, digital cameras and other small-sized consumer electronics are to be collected, but please check here for the full list of the items.

  • Size of the disposals is limited to fit to slot of the collection box (25x10cm).
  • Please ensure to delete personal data in your device prior to disposal.

You are encouraged to participate in this campaign and practice SDGs by turning your unneeded electric disposals into medals!
