今回のフォーラムでは、みなさんの「つぶやき」（#undayjapan2012）も募集中、会場で紹介します。フォーラムの感想、みなさんの思い描く持続可能な世界をつぶやこう！
「国連デー」は、1945年10月24日に国連憲章が発効したことを記念して設けられた国連の記念日です。今年は「ポスト・リオ+20：私たちが望む未来を実現させるために」と題したシンポジウムを開催し、持続可能な社会づくりのために日本として何ができるのか、何をしなくてはならないかを、今後設置が見込まれる「持続可能な開発目標（SDGs）」も踏まえつつ、幅広い関係者と共に考えます。
今年6月、ブラジルのリオデジャネイロで開催されたリオ＋20（国連持続可能な開発会議）では、世界の指導者が民間企業、NGOなどのグループを代表する参加者と一堂に会し、過密化が進む地球で、私たちがどのように貧困を削減し、社会的公正を高め、環境保護を確保できるかについて議論しました。公式協議では、持続可能な開発を達成し、人々を貧困から救い出すには、どのようにグリーン・エコノミーを構築すればよいのか、また、持続可能な開発に向けた国際的調整をどう改善すべきか、の2つを主要課題に掲げ、3日間の議論を経て成果文書を採択し、リオ+20は閉幕しました。
日本からも政府代表、ビジネス、市民社会、学術関係者など幅広い分野から多数が参加し、東日本大震災から得た貴重な体験に基づいて進められている復興について、他の国々と共有が図られました。
持続可能な社会を構築するには、様々なセクターに携わる人々の認識が共有され、セクター間の連携が推進されることが不可欠です。世界的な世論を主導できるような提言を日本から発信するために、まず市民一人ひとりが、持続可能な社会の構築を自分自身の問題としてとらえることが求められています。

UN Day is held each year in commemoration of the entry into force of the United Nations Charter on 24 October 1945. This year’s UN Day Public Forum will be held with the theme of “Post ‘Rio+20’: Achieving The Future We Want”, providing an opportunity to discuss what we can and what we have to do to create a sustainable society, taking into account the setting of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the process Member States at Rio+20 agreed to launch.
At the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, also known as Rio+20, held in June 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, world leaders discussed together with participants representing private sectors, NGOs, academics and others, how to set a new course that truly balances the imperatives of robust growth and economic development with the social and environmental dimensions of sustainable prosperity and human wellbeing. The Conference focused on two main themes: How to build a green economy to achieve sustainable development and lift people out of poverty, including support for developing countries that will allow them to find a green path for development; and how to improve international coordination for sustainable development. Rio+20 concluded with the adoption of the Outcome Document.
From Japan, representatives from various sectors attended the Conference and shared important lessons from post-disaster reconstruction efforts.
Sharing the perspectives and experiences among various sectors and strengthening cooperation are critical in our efforts to build a sustainable society. For Japan to lead the global discussion, each one of us should consider the building of a sustainable society as our own immediate goal.
