コフィー・アナン国連事務総長の来日について

1. コフィー・アナン国連事務総長が来たる2006年5月16日（火）から19日（金）まで4日間の予定で、外務省賓客として来日します。アナン事務総長の来日は2004年２月以来2年3カ月ぶり、事務総長として7度目の訪問となります。今回の来日は、オーストリア、韓国、日本、中国、ベトナム、タイへの公式訪問の一部として行われるものです。
   
   
2. アナン事務総長の来日の目的は、国連改革など国際社会が直面する課題について日本政府と緊密な意見交換を行うことです。
   
   
3. 滞在中、アナン事務総長は小泉純一郎総理大臣、麻生太郎外務大臣、安倍晋三官房長官ら日本政府関係者との会談を行うほか、国連グローバル・コンパクトに参加している日本企業・団体の関係者と意見交換を行います。
   
   
4. アナン事務総長は東京大学大講堂（安田講堂）において同大学名誉博士号の授与式に臨み、記念講演を行います。

UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan’s Visit to Japan

1. United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan will visit Japan for four days from Tuesday 16 May to Friday 19 May 2006. This is a working visit upon invitation by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Secretary-General’s visit to Japan will be his first since Feburary 2004 and his seventh visit to Japan. The visit is a part of his official trip to Austria, Republic of Korea, Japan, China, Vietnam and Thailand.
   
   
2. The purpose of his visit is to exchange views on the issues that the international community faces now, such as the reform of the UN.
   
   
3. During his stay in Japan, the Secretary-Genreal is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, Foreign Minister Taro Aso and Chief Cabinet Secretary Shinzo Abe. He will also exchange views with the Japanese business leaers whose companies have participated in the UN Global Compact.
   
   
4. The Secretary-General will attend Honorary Degree Conferment Ceremony of the University of Tokyo and make commemorative lecture.
