コフィー・アナン国連事務総長の来日について

1．コフィー・アナン国連事務総長が来たる2004年2月21日（土）から25日（水）まで5日間の予定で、外務省賓客として来日します。アナン事務総長の来日は2002年1月以来2年1カ月ぶり、6度目の訪問となります。
2．アナン事務総長の来日の目的は、イラク問題、国連改革など国際社会が直面する課題について日本政府と緊密な意見交換を行うことです。
3．滞在中、アナン事務総長は天皇陛下に謁見するほか、小泉純一郎総理大臣、川口順子外務大臣ら日本政府関係者との会談を行うとともに、国連事務総長として初の国会での演説を行います。さらに、日本経団連における日本のビジネス・リーダーとの懇談（非公開）では、国際社会の課題のほか国連がすすめる企業とのパートナーシップ（グローバル・コンパクト）についても意見を交換する予定です。

UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan's Visit to Japan

1. United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan will visit Japan for five days from Saturday, 21 February to Wednesday, 25 February 2004, upon invitation by Minister for Foreign Affairs. The Secretary-General's visit to Japan will be his first since January 2002 and his sixth visit to Japan.

2. The purpose of his visit is to closely exchange views on the issues the international community faces now, such as Iraq and the reform of the UN.

3. During his stay in Japan, the Secretary-Genreal is scheduled to meet the Emperor, Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi. The Secretary-General will give address to the Diet for the first time. In a closed meeting with the Japanese business leaders at Nihon Keidanren, the Secretary-General will exchange views on the challenges of the international community and the UN's partership with the business world, which is called the "Global Compact".
